Author Guideline

Article Types

  • Original Research Articles: Reports of data from original research (word limit: 3,000-5,000 words). Authors are encouraged to follow the STROBE guidelines for observational studies and CONSORT guidelines for randomized controlled trials.
  • Review Articles: Comprehensive, critical assessments of research topics (word limit: 4,000-6,000 words). Systematic reviews should adhere to PRISMA guidelines.
  • Case Reports: Detailed presentations of unique or rare cases (word limit: 1,500-2,500 words). Authors should consider using the CARE guidelines.
  • Field Reports: Rapid communication of preliminary findings from the field related to outbreaks or events of public health concern. Publication will be expedited if necessary.
  • Outbreak Reports: Findings of outbreak investigations. The article should follow the steps of outbreak investigation as recommended by CDC, MSF, or WHO.
  • Surveillance Reports: Studies related to evaluation of surveillance systems using the CDC framework.
  • Study Protocols: Protocols of the study, focusing on design and methodology.
  • Commentaries: Short, opinion-driven pieces on current issues (word limit: 1,000-1,500 words). Mostly invited by the editorial board.
  • Short Communications: Brief reports on novel findings or methodologies (word limit: 1,500 words).
  • Letters to the Editor: Responses to published articles or general commentary (word limit: 500-800 words).

Language

Language Manuscripts must be submitted in English. Authors may use UK or US English but should apply their choice consistently throughout the manuscript. While language quality is not a basis for rejection, authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts in the best possible English. Professional editing is recommended if necessary.

Peer review

  • Manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening for suitability and originality.
  • Selected manuscripts are sent for peer review.
  • Authors will receive constructive feedback, with decisions categorized as Accepted, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Rejected.

Data Sharing

Authors are encouraged to share data and provide relevant links to datasets where applicable. Data availability statements should be included in the manuscript.

AI Usage

If artificial intelligence (AI) tools were used during the preparation of the manuscript, this must be clearly disclosed in the methods or acknowledgments section. Authors should specify the tool(s) used and describe how they contributed to the manuscript. The authors bear full responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the content generated with the assistance of AI tools.

Post-Acceptance

  • Authors will receive galley proofs for final approval.
  • Articles are published online under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license.

Retraction and Corrections

The journal reserves the right to retract or correct published articles if ethical concerns or significant errors are identified. Research misconduct is treated as serious, and offending authors may be blacklisted from future submissions. APCs are not refundable for retracted articles.

Transparency and Openness

Transparency and Openness Global South Open is committed to promoting transparency in research. Authors are encouraged to:

  • Provide detailed methodologies.
  • Share raw data, code, and supplementary materials whenever possible.
  • Pre-register their studies and disclose registration numbers.
